The Agra division is considered to be a major Dalit stronghold. BSP supremo Mayawati makes it a point to start her electoral campaigns with a public meeting in Agra, and has always said that "Agra has proved lucky for her and her party".
However, the Dalits in Agra burned posters and effigies of Mayawati in protest against her silence over the Hathras case.
Jatav Mahapanchayat president, Ramvir Singh Kardam, told India Today that "it is very disheartening to see that Mayawati does not have the same regards for the Dalits as they have for her. He said that till date, "Mayawati has not even cared to visit the house of the Dalit girl who was gang-raped by four upper caste men in Hathras". He said that senior leaders of all the political parties have gone to Hathras to meet the bereaved family and even faced police lathi charge. "However, Mayawati sat comfortably in her house worth crores. The Jatav Mahapanchayat strongly opposes her silence who claims to be a Dalit leader," he added.
BSP City president, Vimal Kumar, and nearly a dozen of workers said that burning an effigy of Mayawati and her party posters is a violation of CrPC Section 144, as well as "a violation of the faith the Dalit community holds in Mayawati". A complaint about this incident has been filed and a criminal case has been registered against some unidentified people.

Dalit leader and social activist, Rajkumar Nagrath, said the "farce" by some Dalits, of throwing ink on the face of AAP leader Sanjay Singh, was "unacceptable" and he has personally sent a memorandum to President Ram Nath Kovind for the removal of Yogi Adityanath from the chief minister's post, besides ensuring that the person who threw ink on Sanjay Singh is sent to jail.
Meanwhile, the Akhil Bhartiya Jat Mahasabha held a virtual meeting and condemned the lathi-charge on RLD vice-president Jayant Chowdhary and demanded action against those behind it. They said "this was an attack on the self-respect of the Jat community and if action is not taken against the culprits, the Jat community can go up to the extent of burning an effigy of Yogi Adityanath".

Social activist Deep Sharma said in near future, several states are going to assembly polls, and probably this is the reason why "senior political leaders are jumping in the fray to catch the maximum limelight in the Hathras case". He said Congress has been quite successful in being on headlines, first in Hathras and then in Punjab, and this could be a major plus point for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's leadership in the upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh, if he can continue the momentum till the Uttar Pradesh polls. As far as Bihar poll is concerned, Congress does not have much ground there and it is more of a bilateral fight between the RJD and the JDU-BJP combine.
